Active festival playtest
At the showcase
Bringing the game to its audience.
What I did
I helped prepare the poster and other materials before the festival.
At the event, I introduced the game, supported the build, and watched how people played.
I also helped run a whiteboard where visitors could draw their favorite version of toast.
What happened
The playtests went well, but the simplest part of the booth—the drawing prompt—became just as useful. People could join in even when every demo station was occupied.
Field notes
The whiteboard slowly filled with increasingly strange toast drawings until it felt like its own collaborative game.
A physical activity does not have to be elaborate to extend a digital game’s personality. Sometimes paper and markers are enough to make a booth feel more welcoming.
